The Graduate Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial management of Rycroft’s residential developments, gaining practical experience in cost planning, procurement, valuations, financial reporting and contract administration.
Working alongside the commercial and project teams, the graduate will develop the skills needed to progress into a Quantity Surveyor role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing cost estimates, budgets and cost plans for residential developments.
- Carry out measurement and quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
- Support the preparation of tender packages for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Assist with reviewing quotations, preparing tender comparisons and identifying best value.
- Support the procurement of subcontractors and preparation of subcontract documentation.
- Assist with assessing subcontractor payment applications and preparing payment recommendations.
- Support the preparation of valuations and monthly cost reports.
- Help identify, measure and value variations to the agreed scope of works.
- Monitor project expenditure, commitments and forecast costs alongside the project Quantity Surveyor.
- Maintain accurate commercial records, including orders, variations and payment documentation.
- Attend site and commercial meetings, record actions and follow up on assigned tasks.
- Liaise with site, design, finance and purchasing teams to support project delivery.
- Assist with the preparation and agreement of subcontractor final accounts.
- Develop an understanding of construction contracts, commercial risks and cost control.
- Participate in training, mentoring and development activities throughout the graduate programme.
- A recent or upcoming graduate in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline.
- A full driving licence and willingness to travel between project locations are desirable.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Good attention to detail and an organised approach to work.
- Clear communication and a collaborative approach.
- A willingness to learn, ask questions and take responsibility.
- An interest in residential development and the commercial aspects of construction.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and a willingness to learn estimating and commercial management systems.
